Dear Acompalia Followers

Already in January, we are pleased to announce that we now have over 1,000 followers on Facebook, growing 30% from 772 followers in January, 1st, 2017. But why is social media reach important for a small association like ours?

Dear Acompalia followers,

The Acompalia team would like to first and foremost thank all of you readers, supporters and followers for your continued support and encouragement. We also take this opportunity to wish you health and strength for the year to come.

Already in January, we are pleased to announce that we now have over 1,000 followers on Facebook, growing 30% from 772 followers in January, 1st, 2017. But why is social media reach important for a small association like ours?

  1. Because it helps us expose and highlight the volunteering work we do in terms of Palliative Accompaniment in the Granada province, mainly in the Costa Tropical and La Alpujarra regions.
  2. Because it helps us reach even more people in need or who may know someone who needs our services.
  3. Because it helps us get noticed by even more donors, sponsors and philanthropists all of whom contribute by helping us to offer our services for free and, ultimately reach another important milestone which is raising sizeable funds for our Palliative Care Centre in Motril.
  4. Because it will, hopefully, encourage more people to volunteer in one of our hubs: Acompalia Cuida, Acompalia Tienda, Acompalia Gastronomia, Acompalia Musica, Acompalia Terapia, Acompalia Activa or Acompalia Artistica. More info here.

How did we achieve that? Mainly by communicating our activities and achievements in English and Spanish on our social pages and Website, but also thanks to all our press and media support which, by putting a focus on our story, help us grow our reach. Clearly a small team like ours, we are only 7 board members, can only dedicate so many volunteering hours per week on all fronts and we are all stretched to our maximum capacity. So, if you already spend some time on social media (mainly Facebook, Twitter, Instagram), can communicate on a professional level in English and/or Spanish and feel like volunteering 5 to 10 minutes a day 3 to 5 times a week and 1 hour a month for a catch-up meeting, please get in touch!

As previously mentioned, we have different hubs that, when combined, form the backbone of our association. At present, we are seeking volunteers for all our hubs plus mentors for Acompalia Cuida – our social work, Acompalia Gastronomia – our foody group, Acompalia Therapia – our natural therapies group and Acompalia Activa – our healthy/sporty group. If you have a knack for organising events or can help coordinating existing events, if you know key players interested in dedicating one of their existing events to a great cause, or if you want simply to be the sympathetic ear at the other end of the line or the helping hand, reach out to us on info@acompalia.org.

On a sadder note, three of our board members, who have served Acompalia brilliantly over the past 6 years, have decided to step down as committee members. We would like to thank them warmly for their efforts, their tremendous dedication and their incredible drive which has enabled Acompalia to stand proudly where it does today. It also means that, for our association to not only remain active but also to continue its growth as it has done over the years, we need creative strategists with a good command of English and Spanish and a strong knowledge of charity work and/or palliative care. As a volunteer, you will be a natural team player, a creative thinker, a mover-and-shaker and ready to dedicate some 20 hours a week, 10 months of the year to our great cause. Do you enjoy getting into the nitty-gritty of policy? (advising on finances, human resources policies, fundraising, insurance matters, and strategic planning). Do you have enough time for our board?  Naturally, it is not just about board meetings but also about contributing to the hubs, preparing for meetings, representing Acompalia and help with fundraising. Do you enjoy collaborating with others? Working with others is key in reaching mutual decisions, working out disagreements and getting along with all. Are you comfortable with raising funds? There are many ways to help on that front, but it is essential we all play a part to ensure the continuity and successful growth of the association.

But some of us are not hands-on, and it is totally fine. For all of you supporters, we have the perfect solution: become a member. For the equivalent of a beer+tapa or coffee+cookie a month, you can become an Acompalia member. Just imagine this: if half of our Facebook supporters became members, we would instantly raise 7,500€ a year! Incredible, no? And to all fiscal residents in Spain, whether you are a private person or a company, you can deduct part of your donation on your yearly tax return thanks to our Utilidad Publica number 7965, so we are in for a win-win!

Easy ways to become a member:

  1. Fill in the form online https://acompalia.org/members/ and for every 3 members who join thanks to you, we will renew your membership for one year, free
  2. Click here and let us know you want to become a member. Upon receiving your email, we will send you a form to fill in.
  3. Ask an Acomaplia volunteer in the Acompalia Tienda in Lanjaron or at any of our events to fill in a membership form.

Membership is the lifeline of any associations and we are very grateful for your continuous support.

Looking forward to sharing with you an exciting year of Palliative Accompaniment where CARING and SHARING will take once more centre stage.

All the best from all of us,

The Acompalia team.
